I love reading. I love it even more now that I have my Kindle. It does not take up much space. I treat it more like a wallet...I don't go anywhere without it in my purse. Here is my running list of the 101 books that I have read:
1. I Will Carry You: The Sacred Dance of Grief and Joy by Angie Smith
Angie is the wife of Todd Smith, singing group Selah. She recounts the struggles of losing Audrey. She lived only a few hours after being born. Her story is raw, honest, and caring for anyone who is hurting or looking for a way to help someone who is. I won't lie, I cried...a lot. It was theraputic and eye opening. I would recommend this book for anyone struggling with the loss of a child or friends/family of the parent. At the end of the book, Todd has a chapter that lets him talk to the men and how he handled the situation as it happened and the things that he would do differently.
2. Food Rules by Michael Pollan
I discovered this book after watching Oprah. It is very eye opening. It discusses the problems with American society when it comes to food, obesity, and the desire for fast food. It is very informative and everyone can learn something from this book.
3. The Ocean Between Us by Susan Wiggs
I saw this book being discussed on several other MilSpouse blogs. It is straight fiction and Susan Wiggs does a phenominal job bringing the characters to life. The story line is of several Navy families and their individual struggles with marriage, ship duty, and life. If you decide to read this, may I suggest reading the first book. (Although it isn't necessary...the story line flows.) After reading the book, I searched her to see what else she had written. The first book is The Story of Us. These are both great summer reads.
4. Take One by Karen Kingsbury
5. Take Two by Karen Kingsbury
6. Take Three by Karen Kingsbury
I bunch all of these together because it is part of a series. I love Karen Kingsbury! She is a Christian fiction author. The story line follows two men who leave the mission fields of the jungle for the mission field to make life changing movies. The books cover their struggles and triumphs, their victories and defeats. You just have to read them....did I mention that you get so caught up that before you know it you are finished? Great summer reading! PS--I am reading Take Four right now...it was JUST released! (It is the final one in the series.
7. Take Four by Karen Kingsbury
8. Unlocked: A Love Story by Karen Kingsbury
9. The Ultimate Gift by Jim Stovall
